Who will stand up for the weak?
So often in our world, troubles and hard times remain where they are because no one is willing to stand against the ones who seek to take advantage of the weak, those who refuse to let the walls of protection be rebuilt.
Then one day, God provides a courageous Nehemiah to demand that the walls be rebuilt.
When Sanballat the Horonite and Tobiah the Ammonite servant heard all this, they were very displeased that someone had come to seek benefit for the Israelites. (Nehemiah 2:10)
Nehemiah received the authority from the King of the Empire to stand up and refuse to keep things as they are. The walls will be rebuilt. The lives of the weak will no longer be trampled down by oppression.
Troubles can continue for years and years without resolution, because no one is willing to stand up and say what needs to be said.
Don’t be afraid to stand and speak up
At times, things will get worse because someone spoke up. However, things never improve when everyone remains silent.
Here in America, we have many examples of people who changed bad situations into good ones because they spoke up.
At great personal cost, Martin Luther King, Jr stood up for equality in the 1960s. And in the new millennium, Abby Johnson stood up for the right of the unborn to live.
Can you think of someone in your country who was daring enough to ask the questions no one else was asking? Is there someone who lives in your town who passionately spoke out about something that was on everyone’s mind?
It does us no good when we sit and complain about the troubles around us. Things will remain just as they are until someone stands up for change.
Will you be the one to take a stand? Will you choose to accept nothing else but a better way of life for those who cannot help themselves?
