Satisfied with what I have
By concluding that profit is piety, their souls are corrupt and are deprived of truth. Stay away from such people.
It is true that piety with sufficient provision is a great advantage, for we brought nothing into this world and are certain that we cannot carry anything away with us.
But let us be satisfied to have food and what we need to clothe ourselves.
For those who want to become rich fall into temptation and into the trap of the devil, and into many unprofitable and harmful desires which drown men with death and ruin.
For the root of all evil is covetousness.
Through it, some have wandered from the faith, piercing themselves with many sorrows. – 1 Timothy 6:5-10 (MWNT)
How much do you need to make each month to be satisfied with where you are financially?
A paid off mortgage on your home… No struggle to get the food you need and love to eat, food that is good for you… Money to clothe your kids and send them to college…
After that, what else do I need? How much money does it take for my heart to be satisfied and at rest?
Imagine all the money that would be available to help those in need if, once we are satisfied, we gave what’s left to those who support our cause.
Maybe it’s providing clean water for third world countries. Or bringing abducted children back to their villages in Central Africa.
Most of us can’t give like our heart wants us to. But the first step to being satisfied is to be generous. To give what we can toward our cause to people we trust… even if it’s just a little.
Because your little, and my little, becomes a lot!
Let’s fight to be in an economic situation that allows us to give generously… and commit to actually do so when it’s our turn to make an eternal difference!
